?Yes, I may be a little different?that makes me even more special, and certainly doesn?t mean I can?t make you a wonderful best friend.?

LAPCATS is joining Petfinder.com to celebrate Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week September 17 ? 23. The theme, "That?s What Makes Me Special" urges people to consider adopting those pets who suffer from discrimination, including color, breed prejudice, ?ageism? and special needs?the ones that are often overlooked.

?Every day, families walk into shelters or visit Petfinder.com and automatically bypass some great adoptable pets simply because of the way they look, their age, or because they have a condition such as blindness or deafness,? said Betsy Banks Saul, the co-founder of Petfinder.com.

Which Pets are Hardest to Place?

Did you know that 99% of Petfinder shelters and rescue groups currently have adoptable pets that have been at the shelters a long time and are having a harder time getting adopted?

In fact, according to their survey, these ?less-adoptable? pets wait for a home nearly four times longer than the average adoptable pet does ? sometimes more than two years!

Which pets have the hardest time finding homes for? Here?s what they said:

Petfinder.com is also featuring a gallery of ?less adoptable? pets on its website during this weeklong event to highlight just how many pets need to be given a chance.

Petfinder.com launched its first Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet campaign in 2009 to promote some great animals that could be overlooked. Since then it has become an annual event.
