Marvin Lewis Community Fund kicks off another block party

CINCINNATI ?

Even before the Cincinnati Bengals took the field on Sunday, celebrations were already in order. Organizers with the Marvin Lewis Community Fund held a tailgate party on the Moerlein Lawn as a way of saying thank you to all those who have supported them.

Bengals fans helped kick celebrate and kickoff the 10th year of the fund, which has contributed more then $6 million to the community and has impacted more than 450,000 people since it was founded in 2003.

"We hope people will come down and have a great time, learn more about the community fund and then cheer us on against the Dolphins whether they are going to the game or not," said Marvin Lewis, head coach for the?Bengals and chairman of the Marvin Lewis Community Foundation.

Food, drinks, games and music bridged the gap from sunrise to kickoff. However, the real focus was on recognizing the work done by the fund every year.

?It?s a community fund and we have a lot of community support, which is wonderful, and things are just going great,? said Marvin Lewis Community Fund executive director Barbara Dundee.

The fund also awards college scholarships. Jamie Coogan, a junior at Xavier University, experienced first hand how much a difference the fund makes.

?Without it, I probably wouldn?t actually be able to go to Xavier, so, or I would just have to take out a lot of student loans,? Coogan said. ?So, yeah, I?m very grateful for it.?
