If you bought your phone from a carrier it?s likely locked to that carrier. ?While in most cases this isn?t a huge deal, it?s still nice to have the freedom to throw any sim card into your phone and have it work right away. ?Normally you have to pay for this service. ?You?d either take it to a guy or you?d find an unlock code online and pay anywhere from $20-$40 to get the code.
Well one crafty little developer has figured out a free option for the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II. ?It?s actually extremely simple and easy to do but make sure you read it through before you jump in. ?I?ll be testing this out later so I?ll ?update the post to let you know if it works. ?The little hack only seems to work on Android 4.1, but since that update is now readily available you likely already have it.
According to some posts in the thread, the unlock is permanent and isn?t affected if you do a factory reset. ?Hopefully it lasts through firmware updates too! ?If you want to try it out for yourself hit the XDA link below. ?And again, read first.
